EIDO has recently been made a lifetime member of the Plain English Campaign, after more than fifteen years producing quality information for consent, making it one of only 7 healthcare organisations which have been awarded this honour.
From the very beginning, the success of EIDO’s patient information documents has rested on the clarity of their content. The Plain English Campaign have been invaluable partners in this endeavour, reviewing and approving every single document in EIDO’s library.
The Campaign’s founder, Chrissie Maher OBE, had the following to say about EIDO’s achievements:
We at Plain English Campaign are delighted to announce that EIDO Healthcare has achieved lifetime membership status.
Fifteen years ago, EIDO first applied for our Crystal Mark for its very first patient information document. Since then EIDO has gone on to be an industry leader in patient communication, and now holds almost 400 individual Crystal Marks.
EIDO produces patient information leaflets to support the informed consent process. We know from experience that it’s not easy to provide patients with clear information about complex medical terminology, especially when they are choosing whether to consent to potentially life-changing operations. Yet EIDO has consistently demonstrated an understanding of patients’ needs in this crucial area, and remains at the forefront of clear consent communication.
The Plain English Campaign believes that everyone should have access to clear and concise information and has been campaigning against gobbledygook, jargon and misleading public information since 1979. Visit the Plain English Campaign website to learn more. The website provides many useful tools as well as free guides.
